Wild animal care volunteer Dolph Volker met Gabriel the cheetah in a South African animal sanctuary over two years ago when the big cat was only 10 months old. The two spent a lot of time together as it was Volker’s job to feed, play, and even cuddle with Gabriel. Eventually, however, Volker had to return to city life, leaving his cheetah friend behind.

A year later, Volker returned to see whether or not Gabriel would remember him. This incredible video shows the moment they see each other again after all that. It’s a reunion that may surprise you.
