The fauna and trees are about to take back the sections of Interstate
291 that are no longer in service in Connecticut. Bold graffiti stands
out among the plants and mossy walls that once ran alongside the
highway, and it looks more like a paved hiking trail than anything else
these days.
Complete sections of the highway have been torn out, and all the remains are deep, muddy holes in their place. You can see the sections from various overpasses throughout the area, and the old sections aren’t difficult to get to. It may not be long before the road is taken back by nature.
